WHAT IS IT LIKE TO BE A DANCER?

18 Oct

What is it like to be a dancer? Some say dancing is too tough. Some say it is no use learning dance because it won’t make you rich. Some say it is a wonderful art. Well, let me tell you, it is best to ask a dancer this question. Dance is an art. And even when you have learned a lot, there is still more to learn. There is no end to the possibilities in dance. To be a good dancer, you must enjoy dancing. If you don’t enjoy your performance, the audience won’t enjoy it either. You must also practise regularly and put in effort. It is not easy, but if you work hard, there will be good results.

I had written a poem on what you need to do to beĀ  good dancer for M.a.d.a.l magazine. This was the annual magazine by Prayathnam, an association an of dance teachers. Every year, Prayathnam conducts dance practical and theory exams called Yathnam exams. Participants could send poems, stories and drawings to the association for their magazine. Since I wrote the exam this year, I decided to write a poem on dance. Recently, this year’s magazine came out. And guess what, my poem was published! I am so happy and really hope you will read it. As there is no online version of the magazine, I have posted my poem below.

To be or not to be….

To be a good dancer, you have to have grace,
“I will practice hard ” should be true and not just a phrase.
To be a good dancer, you have to have ambitions,
To perform in famous temples can be one of you missions.
It is good being pretty in dance dresses and jewellery fashion,
But more important, is hard work, grace and passion.

I hope you like the poem. This is all for now. Good bye!!

MY LIMERICK COLLECTION

6 Apr

Hello! I am back with some poems, but not just any poems, they are limericks!!!

A limerick is a funny or humourous poem which has a strict line sequence.

LIMERICKS:

The Clerk Who Loved To Work

There was a clerk,
Who loved to work.
Even though he earned a lot of money,
He didn’t spend a penny.

The Cook With The Good Book

There was a cook,
Who had a good book.
The number of pages she read everyday was three,
She especially loved to read while sitting in her backyard under the oak tree.

The Girl And Mouse Of Norway

There was a girl in Norway,
Who met a mouse in her doorway.
Said the mouse,
“I’m going to my house.”
The girl said, “Go ahead. Have a nice day.”

The Man Who Loved To Write

There was a man who loved to write.
But he had bad manners and often got into a fight.
So he moved out of his house in the big city to a house in the country,
But he often took his wife to the city,
To go on a shopping spree.

The Mouse Who Would Always Frown

There was a mouse who would always frown,
He lived in Mouseford which was a town.
Christmas was just two weeks away,
His fellow mice invited him to the park to play.
He agreed and what a vacation it was for good old Mouse!
He had so much fun that he didn’t want to go back to his house.
But soon vacation was over, so with his frown upside-down,
Mouse smiled all the way back to Mouseford town.

The Kind Tree

There was a tree,
Who gave out his fruits for free.
All the animals thought he was kind.
So they lay on his branches to unwind.
The tree spent his time in the company of many.
Especially a monkey named Penny.

Mouse’s vacation ( Continuation from “The Mouse Who Would Always Frown” but new poem )

One day, when good old Mouse went out to play,
Two baseball coaches saw the amazing home run hit by Mouse who was gray.
They asked him to play for Mouseford’s baseball team.
Mouse agreed and celebrated with a huge tub of chocolate ice-cream.
He practiced really hard and played really well in his first match.
Few days later, he had to stop his practice to fix his house’s thatch.
One day, Mouse said with a lot of determination,
“It is high time I took a summer vacation.”
So he packed his suitcase and pasted on his door a note.
‘Gone on vacation” was all that he wrote.
